City Council plans to give Ariana Grande an honorary citizenship to Manchester, in light of the recent terrorist attack.
City Council has put plans forward to issue Ariana Grande an honorary citizenship to Manchester, in light of the recent terrorist attack that took place at the end of her concert, and the benefit concert she organized to help the city’s victims.
Richard Leese, the city council leader, said that many already consider Ariana Grande “an honorary Mancunian.”
“This seems a fitting moment to update the way we recognise those who make noteworthy contributions to the life and success of our city.”
“We’ve all had cause to be incredibly proud of Manchester and the resilient and compassionate way in which the city, and all those associated with it, have responded to the terrible events of 22 May – with love and courage rather than hatred and fear.”
City Council also announced that it will be holding an event to recognize “the great many selfless acts and demonstrations of community spirit in the aftermath of the atrocity.”
The council is also planning on creating a new system to honour people who have a positive impact on Manchester city. The first recipient will be Ariana Grande.
Ariana’s “One Love Manchester” Concert
Ariana’s benefit concert, the June 4th One Love Manchester concert, had over 50,000 attendees and 14.5 million watching on TV. It raised over £3m in donations to help the victims of the May 22nd attack.
Ariana was accompanied with several other talented performers such as Miley Cyrus, Take That, Niall Horan, Katy Perry, Coldplay, Black Eyed Peas and a special guest Liam Gallagher.
Ariana Visits the Victims
Ariana also visited some of the victims that were injured at her show. She gave a speech during her benefit concert about one particular fan she met, Olivia Campbell.
“I had the pleasure of meeting Olivia’s mummy a few days ago,” an emotional Grande told the crowd. “And as soon as I met her I started crying, and I gave her a big hug.”
“And she said that I should stop crying because Olivia wouldn’t have wanted me to cry.”
“And then she told me that Olivia would have wanted to hear the hits. So that means that [although] we had a totally different show planned, we had a rehearsal yesterday where we changed everything.”
