Pop queen Madonna is attempting to adopt two more children from Malawi, according to officials. The superstar is understood to want to bring four year old twin sisters called Stella and Esther into her family.
The twin girls have been living together in an orphanage in the country since they were two. However, the singer, 58, is said to be determined to give them a better life and officials in the country say that she made an application for custody of the girls at the High Court in Lilongwe.
However, Madonna could have to wait up to three weeks until she finds out whether she has been successful in her application. The star already has two adopted children from Malawi – David Banda and Mercy, as well as two older children, Rocco and Lourdes.
She has insisted, despite being seen with two children, that claims about an adoption process are false and that she is only in Malawi to find out the progress of children’s hospital.
However, officials say she is definitely putting in an application. Lucy Bandazi from the Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare, says that Madonna has submitted paperwork and her application is now awaiting a decision. She said that Madonna’s application would be considered like any other claim, despite her fame.
After she was seen heading into court, Madonna issued a statement, saying rumours of an adoption were not true. However, sources in Malawi say that her application has already been submitted and that all aspects of her life will be looked at to consider whether she would make a suitable mother for the children. Her financial and social situation will be looked into before a decision is made. The court will be considering where Madonna and the children will live, and where they will be brought up.
