Manchester United have announced the signing of Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic for a fee of 40 million pounds.
Matic, 29, has signed a three year deal with the club and this also comes with an option to extend the deal by one extra year. Matic played 121 English Premier League game for Chelsea with four goals to his credit.
Matic featured in over 25 league games for Chelsea last season and was always preferred ahead of Fabregas in the Chelsea line up.
His decision to move is not unconnected to the fact that Chelsea has signed Monaco midfielder, Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Matic belongs in Manchester – Mourinho
Jose Mourinho expressed his delight at getting a player that he also made a request for while he was at Chelsea and will be hoping that he can help in providing depth in the squad even though he is still looking to sign on more players.
“He is now a Manchester United and Mourinho player now.” He stands for everything that this club needs a player, consistency, loyalty, team player and ambition.
“I appreciate the fact that he has decided to join this club because it would have been difficult to have him if he didn’t want to come. I know the players and the whole of United will love him. We say a big welcome to the team’s number 31.”
Matic in his first press conference revealed that he was happy to get another chance with Jose Mourinho and he just could not turn down the opportunity.
