The current World number 1 men’s tennis player Rafael Nadal defeated Dusan Lajovic 7-6 (8-6) 6-2 6-2 to get to the US Open second round at Flushing Meadows.
The game was played under closed roof due to heavy rain in New York started off with the first serve by the Serbian player but he couldn’t take full advantage as Nadal broke the love back.
After the first set ended on a tie break, Nadal dominated the game as the world number 85 could not keep up with his strokes.
Nadal will now square up against Taro Daniel or Tommy Paul in the second round.
It Was Difficult – Nadal
“The game was tough when we first started because he really played well and did not make a lot of mistakes. I also felt like he controlled the points a lot of times.” Nadal said.
“After the first set, it was very vital that I took the break point and I did well to close the set. Everything changed after that.
“I have to keep getting better because the first round is always hard. You can get nervous when you play here regardless of the round that you are in.”
The other men’s clash was postponed due to the rain and it is expected that the games will be played today and Rafael Nadal is still the overwhelming favourite to win the US Open this year.
